What the heck are we doing?

Good question. 

I (Steph) have a life list with all sorts of random things on it. I am slowly, but surely accomplishing those things. (In 2006, I went to a taping of The Price Is Right. 2007 was Italy. In January '09, I am going to Miss America!) Going to the Olympics is on that list.

Holly has wanted to go to China for quite awhile. I'm not sure if she has a list, but if she did, I'm pretty sure China would be on it. She's even been learning the language for awhile.

See where this is going?

One day in the spring of 2007, kind of out of the blue, I sent Holly an email that said something like, "Hey, I've always wanted to go to the Olympics, and you really want to go to China. How about we go next year?" And she said yes. (Sounds kind of like a proposal, eh?)

And just like that, our adventure was born.

Then the planning began. More on that later...

Why Blog?

We're headed to China this summer, and we thought a blog would not only be a good way to keep friends and family "in the loop" while we're gone, but also help us to keep a record of our trip.

The hope is that we'll be able to update you daily while we're gone (Aug. 3-16). We'll see if that really works out...

Until we leave, we'll try to post some things about how this came about, planning the trip, and the fun task of getting visas.
